Our publications

We have published six guides to help families and teachers of children with autism to access nature and the countryside in counties in the South East and East Anglia. The guides should also be useful to those living and working with adults on the autistic spectrum. The first chapter of each guide introduces some of the benefits of nature and the countryside for children with autism. This is followed by a guide to ‘natural’ places to visit in the countryside that we believe many children with autism will enjoy. The guides end with a series of case stories, describing visits to the countryside by school children with autism and related conditions.

We also publish illustrated story books for younger children with autism to accompany our guides. In our first book ‘Alex and Rosie’s Adventures in East Sussex’, Alex and Rosie visit most of the places featured in the corresponding guide. From the short stories, children will learn about wildlife they might see and activities they can undertake in the countryside. We use Widgit symbols for children with speech and language difficulties who rely on visual supports. Three more Alex and Rosie Adventure books are available to download below.

Our first story book for children with autism in Thailand, written by Paticha Areepipatkul, was recently published. It is in Thai, but the title is ‘Pie and Pow’s Adventures in the Park’.
